Whale Watching Excursion
Mirissa is one of the two spots where you have the opportunity to witness Blue Whales roaming, feeding, and nurturing their offspring. If you wish, you can arrange a whale-watching excursion to observe these majestic creatures in their natural environment, although the possibility of such sightings can vary depending on the season, as blue whales migrate to different parts of the world at different times.
Mirissa stands out with the highest concentration of whales and dolphins in all of Sri Lanka. Here, you can spot a variety of whale species, including Bryde’s whales, Sperm whales, Fin whales, and occasionally, the elusive Killer whales. Additionally, the waters around Mirissa are home to numerous dolphin species, such as Common dolphins, Bottlenose dolphins, Spinner dolphins, Risso’s dolphins, and Striped dolphins.
In addition to these impressive marine mammals, you’ll also commonly encounter Bluefin tuna, Flying fish, and sea turtles in the Mirissa area.
